hands adjust
steering wheel grip tightens
it's your turn to go
you better be ready to go fast
faster than you think you should
car frenzy freeway concrete
rivals opponents competitors await
brain tissue reorganizing
there's no time to be soft
think roadway cutthroat assassin
settling into the morning commute
numbness will take care of your fear
a numbness necessary for survival
this is america after all
dogs eat dogs out here
you strong or soft
get pushed around
do some pushing around
the pace is frenetic
pedal down hard don't give an inch
driving ever faster speeds
bumper to bumper license plates
competition for space at blinding pace
no time to be friendly civic
turn off emotions
stern stare no glare
they might have a gun afterall
remember road rage
perpetrator and victim
cell phone distractions
so much to consume
at such terminal velocity
react quick
or you gonna be late for work
you gotta work
never stop work
bills need paid
you can be replaced
don't just be content for your own survival
you need more and more
more speed more greed
remember capitalism requires
your purchasing production
to increase every year the
treadmill ramps faster
keep making the pace
the commute
hurry up man
another cog in the machinery
and the machine moves quickly
all this
in the land where greed greases the speed
and the land where they let the children cry
over that broken down river pier
